Viv Meadows – Plague Woman

The piece, which is in watercolour and white vinegar, is called ‘plague woman’. It was painted during early stages of lockdown when freedom of movement was so limited. I was caring for my frail mother.

It was inspired by the mystic Julian of Norwich who may have lost two husbands in the Black Death.

Her face is covered reminding us of the loss of identity and indeed Person in modern slavery.
